ALL ABOUT MINTED + MY WISHLIST

Sponsored Post

The other great thing about having some time over this break and this time of year is discovering lots of great new resources that I cannot wait to use this year. I am always on the look out for great sites that have unique products available, so when I become aware of them, I love to share.

Minted is a great website and not just because of the products available but because it supports independent designers and artists located in 43 different countries throughout the world. This gives us creative types the real opportunity to showcase our talents and discover some really unique and innovative products/designs that you would not find elsewhere.

The site has several different parts dedicated to different designs and products. It is a fabulous resource for those planning a wedding, looking for a unique gift and wanting some cool fabric to do some DIY in the home, which is why today I want to share with you my Minted Wishlist!

Currently on trend this summer and holiday season is lots of soft water colour tones/textures and foil artworks and we all know how much I love a geometric print!

Oh and did I mention you can personalise may different products too? Personalisation, monograming is another great trend that is becoming increasingly popular, especially when it comes to gifts, parties and weddings.

MY FAVOURITE ONLINE STORE

My favourite online store is Citta Design! I really love their fresh approach to collections, quirky details as well as how they want to create feeling with their designs. To me design is all about how it makes you feel as well as expressing your personality, well for your home anyway. So for me, these guys would be the first place I would start looking if I had my own place. ( One day heres hoping! )

They have a new winter collection called "A Winters Tale " that has just launched, and just by looking at it I begin to feel warm and fuzzy. Want to check it out for yourself? Here is a preview of the collection below which can all be found on their website by clicking here.

VOGUE AND SJP

SJP? No other than Sarah Jessica Parker that is, best known for playing Carrie in Sex and The City, a very popular show around the world. I am a huge fan of SJP including SATC ... the fashion, the shoes, the stories... I could go on for hours.

A very exciting thing occurred last week where Vogue went inside SJP's New York apartment and shot her over 70 questions about herself, what she loves and her home. It is a very fascinating watch and really captures the actress in her normal life and environment, which is full of interesting things and character. Her bright and awesome personality just doesn't shine through on the camera but through her interiors as well... I couldn't love this more, it is 5 minutes of your time very well spent, well for us ladies and interior lovers anyway.

What I also really love about this, is that her home has a real sense of history and stories... it seems as though you could spent a lifetime in there, learn so much about the people who inhabit the space and the history behind all the pieces. There is an interesting debate this idea relates to, which I will share with you all later in the week.

STUDIO SPACE PT2

Yesterday I was discussing work environments and the importance of having them be comfortable and inspiring spaces. Today I want to give you some direction towards making that happen through some great images I have sourced through my own personal research. Seeming as I have now turned what was my once study now into my working home office, it is really important to have it be as organised as possible. Being organised means having as much storage and desk space as possible. If you are a creative person like me you need all the room you can get because spreading out images, colours, textures, patterns is so much more enriching to your imagination that being cramped in a pile of butter paper and samples. So here are my thoughts on what you should do to maximise your space in your home office or studio to make it as inspiring and comfortable as possible.

- Displays! If you have images that you love, quotes, even if it is boring paper work and invoices that need to be paid, having a vision board or upholstered backdrop that acts as a pin board behind your desk or along a wall is a great way to display things. Have those 'To Do Lists' in your face so you do not forget what you need to get done. Think about displaying fabric pieces even, beads, books or tools in a unique way that allows them be a feature in your space. By having them hung up or displayed opened on floating shelves in neat boxes or visible also solves the problem of where to store them. So really it is a win win situation. Do not be afraid to show your work or have your process of work on display. Even though you might feel, ' it is messy' it important to have your environment show how you work.

- Colour! Sometimes as much as we would like to be able to achieve our perfect space through structural changes we cant because we may be renting a studio space or it is just not feasible at the time, so think about using a particular colour that you love which can act as a way of grounding your work zone or creating a bit of a theme so that it is not just a series of computers, printers and paper work. You can also bring in colour through your task chairs and lighting. Offices and work spaces do not need to be boring, they can be full of personality especially if it is the personality and identity of the business.

- Chalkboards! Paint a wall or a section of your space with chalk paint, allows for you to brain storm, write those 'To Do Lists' and random ideas etc. Combine a vision board with a chalkboard wall and you are minimising use of paper and all the post it notes you write your quotes on.

- Zoning your space! Giving your office specific task areas is really important. Even if it is Desk at one end and client meeting & work table area at the other. This also gives you an opportunity to move away from the computer at times, because it can be a real drag sitting in the one spot all day.

- Storage! Think about storage in a fun way, which brings me back to my first point displays. Displaying things that are aesthetically appealing in a unique way can solve storage issues, but sometimes this cannot be achieved if it is a whole box full of invoices. Maximise under desk space with portable draws and or open cube shelves that can be arranged in multiple different ways. Think about what you actually really need at your desk and in your office vs what you really do not need. You will be so surprised what you end up getting rid of, especially if your space is zoned in different task areas.

Here are some inspirational images of spaces that I feel represent some of the things I have discussed today in studio space part 2. All images are sourced from HOUZZ, Pinterest and a beautiful blog a friend discovered and showed me today, The Beautiful Soup.

So many images I know, but I could not narrow it down!

Are you all looking forward to Feature Friday tomorrow? Because I am!

HOME

In the 1980's the Australian Government developed this initiative called 'ARTBANK.' The initiative supports & promotes visual artists through commissions, curating and leasing. One of the many blogs I follow is also In/Out by Arent & Pyke, one my favourite pair of Interior Designers in Sydney.

Juliette Arent talks poetically about this piece of art that she loves. She was asked to talk about in Artbank's new video series 20/20. What I love about this video is the way Juliette talks about deconstructing the home, objects and how people inhabit and live in their spaces. This to me is part of the most exciting and early processes when beginning to develop the clients brief and assist them turning it into a space that they call home.
