A THOUGHTFUL SPACE SERIES
Something that we are becoming increasingly more passionate about is how we love the spaces we inhabit and the impact that they have on us, not just in the way we experience them but in how they effect our health and wellbeing.
You may never have thought about it, but your space internally as well as your body that interacts with external interior environments ( when I speak internally I am talking about your body ) has a direct impact on how you feel, experience and health. That is why it is said that a change is as good as a holiday, think of that saying in terms of your space. A change in environment, or renovation, materials, orientation can be as good as a holiday.
Let us delve a little deeper as when I get back from my holiday this will begin to be one of the main focuses of our business, to create environments that are good for you. This starts with materials that we pick as well as being mindful of how furniture is produced and what is it is made out of. All these things can be directly impacting your health. Overall in the long run we are also impacting our environment with disposable furniture and goods that are not recyclable and adding to the accumulating waste. That is why it is so important that we begin to become mindful of everything that impacts the life that we are building and creating for ourselves, which includes your home, where you work.
Some of us may not have much control over these things and this may not apply to everyone's lifestyle, which is completely fine. However, I would love to share more knowledge and how you can go about being mindful of your health when designing and building your spaces.
The Thoughtful Space series is something that I will be blogging about continuously to bring you updates and explanations on how to help you achieve just that... a thoughtful space.
Now here is a mission for you; do you know what products, chemicals and materials were used to make all the furniture that is in your home? Is it just "temporary" furniture that you are going to be throwing out in another 5 years because you did not feel like it was right to invest? Have you thought about how you can recycle what you have? Do you know intuitively how your space is not working for you personally and health wise?
If you could not really answer any of those questions, then you need to become a regular reader of my series, which will be continuing when we get back from our European adventure on the 15th of September.
This series is in no way, a way to disrespect furniture manufacturing that is economical and accessible to everyone as that is very important and that we do not love trends, seasonal styling and budget friendly furniture. This thought process may not apply to everyone but it is one we are passionate about growing and developing. This is about mindfulness and becoming inspired to develop environments wether they be work or home user friendly and healthy.

FEATURE FRIDAY: 1. 2. TREE
Christmas is around the corner, I know I cannot believe it either and one of the biggest things at the moment apart from your wish list I'm sure, is being as sustainable as possible. The two really are not comparable nor do they rate against each other as sustainability and being environmentally friendly to assist our world is something that is a lot more important and on a whole different scale of huge in comparison to a wish list. The thing is, apart from environmental management, many different campaigns and initiatives that assist our environment there are hundreds of things we can do daily that allows us as individuals to help grow your eco friendly foot print. This brings me to today's very special feature about an eco friendly christmas tree, yes you read correctly, eco friendly, which means it is not green and like any other typical Christmas tree. Yes, it is a new take on the traditional notion of a Christmas tree but in the modern world we live in I think this is just the thing that can bring a truly uniquely new tradition to a home as well as supporting our environment.
It is completely made in Australia from sustainable wood sources, easy to assemble and very good looking if you ask me. I know it is completely different from what you would expect, but if it means one less tree gets cut down at Christmas time, so it can shine in your living room for a month, I am all for it.
It also brings a whole new notion to the concept of decorations for the tree and can really assist you in making a truly special look in your home interior depending on which way you arrange it. All the branches are supported in the centre and can be moved individually in any direction to create your Christmas look.
One, Two, Tree was initially developed the idea as they wanted something individual and eco friendly for their little boy. It is a tree that will surely last a lifetime... in fact that is it's actual name- "The Lifetime Tree."
Make sure to check out the website to find out more.

FEATURE FRIDAY: RICH BRILLIANT WILLING
One of the dork-ish things about being a Designer is that I really cannot go anywhere without scoping out finishes and furnishings. Walk into new hip cafes and you got it, I am scanning those walls and touching the tiles ...without anyone noticing of course. At the end of last year I was in Melbourne walking down the street when I came across this little retail store. I don't remember the name of the store but I do remember I saw these pendant lights in the front window and had to go in. I pretended to look around at the nice modern clothes so I didn't look like the freak who had my eye on something else. Cue the shopping attendant... 'Can I help you?'
After assuring her I was not a crazy person with my smile and polite response, I continued to tell her what she did not know about her lovely glass lights. Where they were made, their comical name and the inscription inside. To my surprise she too was very intrigued and thanked me for making her day interesting.
This brings me to today's feature; Rich Brilliant Willing. An ever so fabulous contemporary lighting & furniture design manufacturer in New York, founded in 2007 by Theo Richardson, Charles Brill & Alexander William. Their studio is situated in Brooklyn NY where they oversee everything from the design to manufacturing & distribution of their products.
I love RBW for it's originality as the designs are based on practicality as well as aesthetics. I feel as though their pieces are a lot more risky than anything else I have come across lately. When looking at their products it is easy to see how they can be utilised in more ways then just one. This is where their designs go beyond aesthetics but think about their user and their possible context in a space. Also I am a sucker for a great quote, play on words and products that are environmentally friendly.
The pendant lights I was talking about above are 'The Bright Side of Light,' 'In The Right Light' and 'Light Without Darkness.' It is a series of three similar designs that are made from glass that is recyclable. All three have their ever so clever names inscribed on the inside. They can be hung together, clustered, individually or just laying on the table as a lamp. Comical, poetic and good design if you ask me. Their edge and practical design thinking carries through all their designs.
Below are some of my favourite products from their collection. You can find all this information and more from their website.
