Friday Fav's this week is a real special one as it is celebrating

a friends business, Seventh Lane.

I love the playful yet relaxed nature of the range as well as the geometric

prints! We all know how I feel about funky geometric prints!

FRIDAY FAVS // TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE

I have two contrasting favourites this week, but together I am sure they could make a sophisticated 

looking interior landscape. 

I love everything about Tom Dixon and his designs but I am in love with

these almost architectural vases... which are just that

pieces of mini architecture to create a unique style and look

 for your home.  They are called "Tank."

My other favourite thing is actually a colour, which is inspired by

Darren Palmers room make over on last weeks 

Thursday evening session of the Block. 

It was a great show full of great inspiration and tips. 

Pastels are in at the moment and they shouldn't be looked upon as 

un sophisticated and child like because used in the right 

context and in a mature way it can be the perfect way

to add soft colour and personality to a dull space. 

Blues are also very calming and can really assist

to create a really sophisticated yet fun look. 

Plus a little metallic never hurt anyone.

PRETTY IN PINK

Pink is not my favourite colour at all and I always think of it in terms of being really girly and not really one that you want to find in your interior, other than a little girls room. However, it is making a really large appearance on the colour front at the moment and is being seen increasingly in homewares throughout summer. Especially as it is great colour to contrast with botanical greens.

It allows for a really soft and feminine feel to a colour palette, especially contrasted with a grey neutral palette. It works well against light timber and metal finishes that allow for a really subtle sophisticated look.
Another colour that is directly related to pink but heading more into the orange zone is coral. It is softer than a bright orange but also a little bolder than a soft pink. Ideally coral works well for accents around the home where as I feel the soft pink allows for one to explore colour in a really bold yet safe way. A contradiction I know!

It also works well with a great scandinavian look for a home and I think we will be seeing a lot more of it in the coming months as summer comes to an end.

I FOUND, I SOURCED, I CONQUERED!

I did not get a chance to share last weeks Friday Fav on the blog but only on our Facebook page. Did you see? 

I want to share with you a little behind the scenes of the setting that is coming together in one of my clients home. I have been looking and looking for the best occasional chair for probably over 6 months. Truth be told, I actually had the perfect one in mind but one of the constant challenges I face especially when designing with a couple is having both their tastes and expectations met. We had the perfect occasional chair but alas it was not ticking one half of the parties boxes so no matter how I pushed it just was not going to happen. So what does one do? I get stubborn and begin a new search for what is going to be the perfect occasional chair. I will find it! I never give up! Winner never quit and quitters never win, I say! 

So where did I find it? In the Kmart new season catalogue! Hilarious but the more hilarious thing is that my client saw it too and we have the exact same thought. Such a special thing having great clients to work with who understand your thought process and design aesthetic. I search and searched and finally found it with a bit of social media assistance, we locked it in and then completed the look with the last copper pipe floor lamp from Freedom Furniture and a colourful cushion.

WARRIOR WEDNESDAY // STORY TELLER OR SEASONAL?

Two posts in one day?! What the hell is going on? ... Well I am inspired that is what is happening today and I have much to share so lets get right to it.

You all know already that I am a huge fan of Sarah Wilson and everything that she stands for so she has again inspired this post, because here at JDZ we really like being rule breakers and stepping away from the crowd. I am all about personality in your home because that is how you tell your story but I am also about keeping your home fresh and vibrant. The thing is I don't mean this in a way that suggests that you SHOULD go out and buy new furniture every month or to match your seasons, I mean that your key pieces and elements around your home should be that, key pieces, that are timeless and always there, but that doesn't mean that changing around your space buy adding in a new cushion that you fall in love with or a brighter colour candle in summer is 'wrong' if it appears on your coffee table... that is actually fine, or not, there really is no right or wrong... it is what works for you and what embodies your personality. If you want vibrance during summer, go get that sweet smelling candle, if you want to be warm in winter, invest in that super wooly bulky blanket that adds that texture to your key couch.

I want to find out from all of you wether you are a story teller in your home or you are more seasonal? Do you believe in having or finding elements that are talking points or different, has history and adds richness to your space?

The thing is, space plays a huge part in our lives especially our homes, it is where we live, it is where we develop a lifestyle, not to mention it impacts the way we feel and how others perceive us. This is why I believe personality and following the concept of creating a "healthy" space is by embodying you.

So, What is your style? Are a mixture of both or are you one or the other?

NEW YORK NEW YORK

The Block is back and of course I am beyond excited! This seasons theme is Fans vs Favs which means two fans will go head to head with two all stars. It kicked off last night with a massive episode and I am already hooked, wishing I could just get in there and do my thing too. I really liked the challenge and cannot wait to see what the other two couples have install for us tonight. The challenge is not at all easy and it is a bit of a downer to know that you have worked so hard to get into the show and then all of a sudden you are not a part of it anymore... but I guess that is how the cookie crumbles. Both teams really set the bar high, which is only a preview of what we should expect from our new Blockheads.

Weekly, on Monday's while The Block is airing, I am going to be doing a review and segment on what I think about the reveals and my favourite products from the show. So make sure to stay tuned as the series continues... because if you are a Blockaholic like me, you will want to know everything. Which brings me to today's post about the brief for the challenge... New York New York!

A loft style of oversized and mix matched furniture that allows the space to really look uber cool and comfortable. It is about mixing bold colours, prints, timbers, metals and large vs small items. I wanted to share today's post with some real inspiration behind a loft look, which usually embraces an industrial contemporary feel. Here are a collection of images from my Pinterest that I feel really embrace the brief of loft.

I love an exposed beam, rustic look mixed with contemporary white and streamline furniture, it can be very elegant as well as really funky... which means the look isn't for everyone but it suits that New York city vibe and city living. We here in Australia don't really have that look embraced, yes there are certain developments that have utilised that concept and brought the idea to life, however, what makes the loft concept more authentic for New Yorkers is the age of the buildings and homes that have been split to create space for living. Warehouses turned into lofts already give off that instant industrial vibe because of its existing nature, hence creating that notion and link to an industrial look that is associated with the idea of a New York loft. It suits the lifestyle and suits city, which makes it such a desirable and cool look... so without further delay ... here are some inspiring examples to allow you to think about how to embrace the look of a loft.

DIY XMAS CRAFT

I have spent a lot of time talking over and over again about how to create some really cool table settings and styling your events this Christmas. Yesterday I cam across this pretty cool DIY project, that allows you to create some interesting little features for your Christmas table setting! A beautiful table setting really does set the mood for your event and because it is such a special time of year, why not put in the extra effort to make the memories look as good as they feel when you spend time with your loved ones and friends.

MONOCHROME STYLE

In continued celebration of the launch of my website and Facebook page to the cyber world today's post is dedicated to all that is Black & White.

Monochrome is back bigger than ever, well in fashion this season anyway and has always been a staple of my style. It is pretty much 90% of my wardrobe.

It is always simple, elegant and effective, which is why you will see it utilised a lot for branding and logo graphics. Originally when designing my logo and trying to "brand" myself ( ridiculously difficult to do by the way) I wanted to stay as far away from B&W! Turns out trying to deny the use of it didnt work. Never mind what anyone says,  B& W is not boring and can be used to make beautiful elegant, statement graphics, fashion and interiors.

It can also be used as a base tone, colour theme and allow any other colours to be matched with it. Just think of it as your little black dress, or black suite if you are male. It allows you to accessorise with anything your heart desires... even if it is a colour that is completely not in the same tone or shade.

In my opinion the new neutrals over the last year are tones and shades of grey ( no not the book) and black & white.
