BROMLEY

I have not spoken much about art on the blog but I have been eyeing off the amazing work of David Bromley for sometime now and thought it was time to share.

David Bromley is an Australian and British artist and is known for a mixture of different genres, but my favourite has to be the series of female portraits. What I love about them most is their intriguing nature and colour combinations. Their simplicity and minimalistic detail in the line work is also to be admired, as the art itself does not at all feel simplistic but gives you a very deep understanding of the persons body and shape. The femininity of the artworks are not over the top and are a perfect piece to create a huge impact in a room, which is what you always want art to do. It allows you to incorporate colour in a very simple way which is what good art should also do for your space. The curated tones of colour are also what give the artworks more depth, which has to be my favourite element.

I first discovered Bromley when working on a clients apartment and was taken a back by the scale and colour of the portrait. It was intimate and the perfect piece for you to be intrigued into how the space opens up into the master bedroom. It has recently been showcased on this season of The Block as the centre piece of a dining room. I have to say I personally really love abstract art however these portraits have caught my eye as unique and striking. 4. Another Fiel Sol Necklace - Cannot go past these beautiful pieces, they are my favourite necklaces and you cannot ever have too many.

THE BLOCK SHOP

You already know by now I am a Blockaholic and that I really should go on the show! I have mentioned to many times how I really want to... but anyway that is another story. What I really love about this year is that the show introduced the shop to go with it. That means everything that the couples feature in their rooms and a like can be found on the site. The Block is always a great way to showcase new talent and get your name out there so it is not surprising that this year the teams have discovered some really cool brands and artworks.

Good art can often be something difficult to source and because it is so subjective it is often hard to find something that majority of people love. The Block Shop is a great way to source some really cool, funky art pieces. I am an lover of everything geometric and abstract, so it is no surprise I am in love with these particular pieces.

I never knew Gwyneth Paltrow had her own blog called Goop. I discovered it late last night scrolling through facebook and reading Abigail Ahern's posts.

Last week I posted about Vingette's and what they are about, now here is the perfect post with instructions from Abigail herself on how to make the perfect one yourself. The vingette doesnt need to just be for a great photo but used to create unique displays and arrangements in your home.

Let your personality shine through with all your favourite things clustered on a self or an array of artworks and photographs.

MIRROR MIRROR ON THE FLOOR

This was a while ago on site whilst furnishing a residential property. You will notice apart from my very bright yellow jumper that the artwork and the mirror are not fixed to the wall.

Over sized and large scale floor standing mirrors can be a great statement piece for any room, particularly a bedroom. 

This one was a beautiful oversized mirror with a chunky black frame which supported itself against the wall in the dressing room of a walk in robe. Not only did the mirror help to open up the narrow space but it added elegance and a point of difference. So naturally I thought why NOT hang the art as well, but place it against the wall on an ottoman. It worked perfectly and made the space look warm and intricate. It also helped to draw your attention to the finer details, like the lovely fabric on the ottoman. Who knew it could provide more purpose than just for something to sit on.

I really think it is important to think about how you frame art, position it and hang it, even if it is by layering it on a console or ottoman against on the wall instead of on it. ( This applies to mirrors too ) Framing or not framing can really impact the way the piece and space is perceived by it's audience. Same goes for the height you hang the image from or wether it is off centre or a pair that are completely two different sizes. 

In the last image below I used a small mirror that too was not hung on the wall and acted more as an accessory more than anything else. It's size and shape completely contrasted the console it was placed on but it just worked! 

In my books there are really no "rules" it is all about just taking some time to really consider your feature art piece or mirror and deciding what you want it to say in your space. 

Dont be afraid to think outside the frame.
