PRETTY IN PINK
Pink is not my favourite colour at all and I always think of it in terms of being really girly and not really one that you want to find in your interior, other than a little girls room. However, it is making a really large appearance on the colour front at the moment and is being seen increasingly in homewares throughout summer. Especially as it is great colour to contrast with botanical greens.
It allows for a really soft and feminine feel to a colour palette, especially contrasted with a grey neutral palette. It works well against light timber and metal finishes that allow for a really subtle sophisticated look.
Another colour that is directly related to pink but heading more into the orange zone is coral. It is softer than a bright orange but also a little bolder than a soft pink. Ideally coral works well for accents around the home where as I feel the soft pink allows for one to explore colour in a really bold yet safe way. A contradiction I know!
It also works well with a great scandinavian look for a home and I think we will be seeing a lot more of it in the coming months as summer comes to an end.

FEATURE FRIDAY: RADIANT ORCHID
It is nearing the end of 2013 and with that comes the new prediction and nomination for colour of the year from none other than Pantone. Do you know what Pantone is? Well, it is the universal colour chart of all colours for designers and printers alike, it just makes sure that we all have a reference to every colour combination around and it just makes it so easy knowing that we can reference the colour and everyone/anyone you are working with will know the exact combination to achieve the exact colouring you are after. There is a real art to the printing process and understanding colours and how they transform from digital to print, from screen to paper etc. It really isn't so black and white, as what you may understand to be black, may not be black at all, it may be a really dark brown or blue, so you have to be very careful. Colour variation occurs all the time and it also just doesn't happen from screen to screen it happens when it is applied to different materials and paper weights as well.
It is an exciting time of year to know the Pantone colour prediction for 2014 is here and we know what will be very popular over the next year. I think it is a very good prediction as for the last couple of months leading into the new summer season, the bright as well as pastel colour combination have been very prominent. Just as the name suggests it is very vibrant/radiant and warming... What do you think of the new colour of the year?
Ps: Orchids are my favourite flower!

FEATURE FRIDAY: PAPER FOR YOUR WALLS
Wallpaper has been something that has been one of those trends that has seen popular periods and then not so popular periods. Over the last couple of years wallpaper of all kinds has really made a come back and has become more popular than ever, with SO many different applications and options available to make your space and walls unique, look and feel incredible. I first started using wallpaper in interiors over two years ago now when it was brought to my attention that painted walls are sometimes really dull and don't add much depth to a space or room. Wallpaper was the instant solution and I went exploring not knowing that I would actually uncover such a popular trend and SO MANY options! There are paintables, removable wallpaper and now something that is becoming very popular is custom murals, which allows you to create a scene in your space that no one else may have.
I really love wallpaper and the textural element it can bring to a surface, which is important to think about when designing interiors. There are so many surfaces in a space to think about and ones that will always have a certain texture to them because of the different materials used but a wall is generally always just painted, so having the ability to add a paper that has a pattern to create depth or a texture to make it more tactile and visually interesting is a great idea. It also allows you to create a different mood, atmosphere or feature which is always really important to think about when designing a space. Wallpaper shouldn't just be restricted to residential design it should and is applied anywhere and in interesting ways. It can also be used to create interesting artworks, murals and can be utilised in hospitality and corporate design to make the space different.

FLOWER POWER - COUNT DOWN TO SPRING
If you're like me you cannot wait for winter to be over... I mean winter is not bad and can be a great in creating really warm and inviting interiors but honestly to me, nothing beats summer and soaking up the warm sun and the beach. In anticipation leading up to the first day of spring... which if you know me well, is my birthday and my favorite day of the year. Not only is it my birthday but it is the first day of a new beginning, sheading all the winter blues and heavy layers and moving into beautiful warm sunny days. These type of days are my favorite because to me, nothing really gets better than that, getting a good dose of Vitamin D, soaking in all the colours, the birds chirping makes me so happy... so yep it is a regular fairy tale happening in my head at the moment.
The new cover of the September issue of Real Living Magazine really inspired me and really made me feel so happy the minute I saw it. I am not usually one for a lot of foral prints and patterns but for some reason the bold colours and images made me smile. When I say I have never been one for floral prints, I mean floral in interiors as is usually associated with "old fashioned" and the 1960s, but it can actually be amazing used in the right interior and with the right brief. What I do love however, is a bunch of fresh flowers and they can really make all the difference in any particular room and the finishing touch. Flowers are an instant way to add colour, warmth and happiness to a room, especially if you need an instant lift and want to feel special. I don't know why, but they just do and they can even be a great way to decorate if you are entertaining or styling a party.
Here are some of my favorites from my Pinterest.
